Let’s face it, a living room in a shipping container is not all that large. So finding a coffee table that fits in the limited space can be challenging.
I found the perfect type of coffee table to use in a shipping container house. Flip top ottomans. Nothing compares to how versatile they are.
My favorite type of flip top ottomans are the faux leather ones that have a tray on the underside of the top.
They are perfect to put your feet on while reading your favorite book. When you are watching TV, just flip the top over and have the tray side of the lid on top. Use the to hold your favorite snack or dinner while watching a movie.
Inside the ottoman, you can store books, blankets, electronics,… whatever you want.

The ottomans we use at our house have a synthetic reptile skin texture. They seem to hold up great outdoors. We store tools for the outdoor fireplace.
I really like how I can move them anywhere in and around the house. If I need more space, I will just shove them against a wall or in a closet.
But, most of the time, they are placed right in front of the couch so I can prop my feet on them.
Most are around 12” cubes. But, you can also find rectangular ones that have two to four compartments for storage.
Some also come in round shapes.
Although they come in a lot of choices in fabrics, I would recommend getting one in synthetic leather because they are easy to clean and don’t stain as easy as cloth. They come in a big range of colors.
